French Polishing Gives An Attractive Shine To Furniture

French polishing Melbourne
In the process of French Polishing coating of wood is done with a solution of shellac which is dissolved in alcohol. The coating is done with the help of rubber made up of rag and cotton wool instead of a brush. Evapouration of the alcohol leaves the shellac deposited on the wood and produces the best looking finish for furniture. The result is a high gloss finish surface with a deep colour making the wood look attractive. Shellac became popular after its introduction into Europe in the 16th century however the term French polish was introduced much later in 1820 after the process was developed by a French cabinet maker. French polish can be used for all dark woods and light woods where light to medium brown tone is required. Button polish gives a more orange or golden tone and for woods which are light in colour or for bleached woods where the natural wood colour needs to be retained White French Polish with a nice milky appearance or Transparent Polish which is very clear is used.
French polishing provides protection to the wood surface from inclement weather conditions like heat, sunlight, moisture or general damage from everyday use. Shellac used in the French Polishing adds an attractive sheen and transforms the wood surface making it look glossy and stylish. Repairs and damage done to the furniture are concealed which helps to improve its appearance drastically. Shellac can be easily repaired and restored compared to other modern day polishing methods. French polishing is very flexible and alterations can be made while the polishing process takes place. French polishing creates less dust and is very easy to do even at residential properties. Shellac used for French polishing is non toxic as it is a naturally occurring resin.
